Description

Another in a row of commissioned pieces, based on a story by the client:

The Fallen are - as the name suggests - creatures who have fallen from grace. Or maybe they never fell, and have always been nightmares incarnate. No one knows what they really look like, as they can appear as anything they choose to drive their victim into insanity, and thus servitude or, if you're lucky, death...

Again there was no real brief. Neither my client nor I knew how to best depict these creatures. Painting this caused me quite a headache at several stages, because there was always something that didn't feel quite right, and then Photoshop decided to ditch several hours of my work at one point - lets just say I wasn't a happy critter. In the end though something clicked, and it all kind of came together.

I used personal references mainly for the hands and angle of the face.

Thanks for looking! :)

The hands and face are remarkably painted, both in terms of three-dimensionality and color. The faces in the cloth look a bit odd, like they were put in as an afterthought instead of worked into the folds subtly, as I imagine they would be. But this is an amazing image overall.

Excellent movement in fabrics and modell. Very nice work with lightning (and colors). The face could have a bit of that gorgeous "inner light " as that upper part of her legs.
Nevertheless, an excellent piece!

This is a beautiful image. I love the dark and dramatic feel of this work. Her hands are also fantastic. :)

Thanks for the comments, much appreciated. :)

JMayer: I see what you mean, thanks for the input. =]

Ikaa: Her face wasn't supposed to be light; it's a mask, something that could drop off at any second to reveal something utterly horrendeous and dark behind it. =]

Awesome work. I think I was married to one of The Fallen. He certainly drove me insane and I wished for death up until the day I left him.

The strongest thing in this painting is the pose, especially her left arm. I love the way her hand is there.

The clouds look way to textured for how far away they are supposed to be. The texture makes them look close. Also I think the grass should lose a lot of texture as it goes back. Other than that, this is so awesome.
